About

Hi, my name is Darren, I’m living in Western Europe and I’m a filmmaker, 3D animator & designer who happens to love taking pictures! About three years ago I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD, Asperger’s Syndrome and Social Anxiety and I’ve been trying to turn this knowledge into an advantage by trial and error ever since.

Some people will find this hard to believe, especially the ones that know me… but I have a great sense of humor! How do I know this you ask? Well, for starters, I’m always laughing really loud at my own jokes. Through the years humor has been a helpful coping mechanism and it saved me on numerous occasions.

Hopefully I’m able to be a somewhat hyperactive inspiration to others, through my writings and creative work.

A few random facts about me:

  • Left and right, I always seem to mix them up when I need to respond quickly. Simple solution: I just randomly choose one and hope for the best. ;)
  • I don’t drink. Well, I mean alcohol. But when I’m having fun, I can appear to be drunk.
  • I can’t sit still, I’m always busy with things.
  • I suspect an ADHD comorbidity. I have ADD/ADHD. I’m such a fan of abbreviations!
  • When I was younger I was absolutely crazy about caravans (travel trailers). I would chase them down the street and knew exactly where and how many were parked in the neighborhood.
  • I. Hate. Cheese. And it took me many years before I was able to stay in the same room as cheese. Now, I’m living in a city famous for it’s traditional cheese market and is sometimes referred to as “Cheese City”. Talking about irony!
  • I’m afraid of Muppets, from the Muppetshow. There, I said it. I would prefer any thriller or horror movie, any day, over having to watch one second of the Muppetshow.
  • I once got my own “Football chant” in the Amsterdam Arena from supporters of a rival football team, when I got behind one of the TV cameras after a big match and started to film them.
  • I have a driver’s license, but there’s more chance of seeing a solar eclipse while it’s snowing then there’s a chance of seeing me driving a car. But I’m planning to work on this!
  • I can solve a Rubik’s Cube in less then 2 minutes. I’ve seen others doing this much faster on YouTube, but I’ve developed my own unique solving-style. (I didn’t say it was better!) ;)

Favorite quote:
Life is like a camera… Focus on what’s important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don’t work out, take another shot.

  1. Besides thanking you for coming and checking my page out, can I just say how much I am loving your blog. Your photographs are phenomenal. 🙂

I have bipolar disorder and I too have moments of deep anxiety when I ‘implode’ and cannot speak to anyone, but it’s great you’ve found an outlet to express yourself and show off your talent.

    All the best!

    • Thank you for the nice compliment and for taking the time to comment here. Really appreciate it!
Sorry to hear about your struggles, they sound very familiar. Hopefully you have a supportive family to help you in difficult times.

You also work with C4D? Great software. Hope to see more of your work! 🙂

      • I’m very lucky that I have many close to me. I hope the same is true for you – I know how isolated Asperger’s can make you feel.

I do work a lot with C4D, trying to teach it to myself, and you’re right, it’s an addictive piece of software! I like your header image; I guess that’s C4D? Would love to see some more C4D work from you too! 🙂 Take care

        • Good to hear!
I’m lucky to have a supportive family.

The header is indeed made with C4D. I started with a different 3D program years ago that was just terrible to work with. Someone suggested me to make the switch to C4D and I’m glad I listened.

I really like the game show animations you’ve made. Especially the Crystal Maze one in combination with the music. I’m also still learning, there’s so much you can do with it!

          • Oh cool, are you a Crystal Maze fan? 🙂

It’s a wonderful program. Some of the stuff people make with it is astounding! There are lots of video tutorials and whatnot around, sites like C4Dcafe are good if you haven’t looked there.

I also have plenty of PDF tutorial books which I’d be happy to share with you if you want them. I haven’t had much time to actually follow them but the little I’ve done with them has been very beneficial. Or if maybe I can help with anything feel free to e-mail me. Take care 🙂

    • Wow, thank you for the kind words and nomination Anna! Although I started this blog just a month ago, I already feel part of this great family thanks to people like you. I’m looking forward to reading more on your wonderful blog. Your posts are very insightful and motivational and I learn a lot from them. Thanks again!

  2. I am so happy for what you are doing! I wish you the best for what you are doing. Your work are really awesome.
My sister has autism and I hope one day she will become like you! 🙂
    Good luck!

    • Wow, thank you Insung, that is really nice of you to say!
Friends and family are very important to help deal with difficult situations in life. After reading your words I believe you must be of great help and a wonderful inspiration to your sister! 🙂

    • Thank you for the nomination Maria, really appreciate it! 🙂
Would love to accept, especially since I like the 7 random facts part of the nomination. Could be interesting. 😉

I’ve had a few busy and stressful days and I’m now in ‘recovery mode’, but will try to post something soon! 🙂

  4. Hey,
Thank you for liking my blog, I’m really looking forward to reading yours, sounds like we have a pretty similar story: only just diagnosed, anxiety, difficulty speaking and an obsession with cameras!

    • Hi, thanks for the follow and taking the time to comment here. It sure does sound like a similar story. And an obsession with cameras? Very cool, there aren’t too many people who share this passion. A shame really. 🙂 Looking forward to hearing / reading more from you!

  5. Hi Darren. I know we are going back and forth with the awards lately, but I do really want you to know that I have given you the One Lovely Blog Award, just because I think you are lovely, and your blog too! Also, I love your tee shirt in this photo, awesome!
If you would like the award you can collect it here: http://sherrimatthewsblog.com/2013/09/13/what-a-week-time-to-bring-out-some-awards/ No rules, just display it proudly because you deserve it! Have a great weekend, and best wishes with your driving 🙂

    • Hi Maria, That’s so very kind, thank you for this nomination!

I have been a bit quiet on my blog lately, but I’m OK. Been crazy busy with random stuff and I’m terrible at multitasking. 🙂 Hope you are well too?

    • Well, I guess I’m no better with this late response Maria. 🙂 I’m on a low energy reserve right now, because I had a busy few days and couldn’t stop myself until it was too late. But I’m sure my batteries will be charged again soon enough. 🙂

Thanks again for the nice nomination!
